I finally ate at Bodega tonight. It's been a long time coming.
It's a huge call but I think it does live up to it's reputation as the best tapas in Sydney.
We had a starter of the most amazing eggplant marinated in garlic, chilli and herbs. Sashimi kingfish on garlic toast with cuttlefish ceviche and peppers stuffed with bacalao. Followed by beef empanadas and chorizo with sofrito paste. Bodega is not afraid to experiment with food and this was also reflected in the desserts. I felt like I'd entered two hatted territory when it came to the desserts, they were exceptional.
We had the banana inspired dish which included a creme caramel, the most divine homemade ice cream and caramelised banana. The other dessert was a pastry filled with a light custard accompanied with homemade chocolate ice cream and poached quince with basil and toasted pine nuts. The basil and pine nuts matched the quince so well. I just adore the balance of sweet and savoury. It reminded me of my all time favourite dessert ever at Marque not too long ago.
I would highly recommend Bodega. The wine list is very comprehensive and the service and ambience is slick. It's certainly been worth the wait.
