Sailor's Thai at The Ivy

I had dinner at Sailor's Thai at The Ivy on Friday night.
It's beautifully furnished in true Ivy style and adjoins one of their 'exclusive' bars.
Having dined at the original Sailor's Thai in the Rocks and a number of times at their Potts Point restaurant, I'm well aquainted with the mind blowing flavours of the food.
The Ivy version let me down in some ways. The betel leaves with spanner crab I had as an entree and the grilled salmon for my main were both enjoyable but lacked that certain x factor that the food has at the other Sailors Thai restaurants. I wonder how David Thompson (chef extraordinaire and ex Sailors Thai) would rate it. Maybe he'll check it out on his next trip home...

I had lunch yesterday at Taste on Foveaux St in Surry Hills.
I thought it was about time I mentioned this fabulous place as I have been going there for a couple of years now and have never had a bad experience (except for the long queue).
They serve Campos coffee. It's not as strong as the original Campos cafe in Newtown but it's still good.
The food is vietnamese/french fusion. You can dine in or takeaway. For me, it's all about the baguettes here. My all time favourite is the lemongrass beef roll with chilli. I always go for the rye baguette but they also have white and wholemeal. The vietnamese flavours for the baguette fillings is such a nice alternative to the usual options on offer elsewhere. No wonder it is always buzzing whenever I drop in at lunchtime. They have a second shop on Sussex Lane in the city which I'm sure is just as popular.
