The Blackheath Bakery

We were up in Blackheath for the weekend and I finally got a chance to visit the famous Blackheath Bakery.

Initially when I walked in I wondered what all the fuss was about, it just looks like your average bakery but upon further investigation I located the famous organic sourdough loaves lining the walls off to the right hand side of the room. The sourdough was very rustic in look and flavour, just beautiful to dip into olive oil and balsamic.

I also bought a divine looking almond tart that had a pastry casing and the consistency of a friand on the base with a coconut flavour and slivered almonds completely covering the top, giving it a crunchy, caramelised finish. They sure have talent out the back in that kitchen!

Also in our travels, we dropped into Katoomba and I stumbled upon a bakery that looks fabulous called the Hominy Bakery. They also specialise in organic sourdoughs. I'll have to try them next time. There are lots of hidden gems to be discovered in this neck of the woods.
