Sugarcane

We had dinner tonight at Sugarcane in Surry Hills. I'd heard good things about it and now I see why.
The service was exceptional and the food was incredible. Sugarcane specialises in South East Asian cuisine and the head chefs are ex Longrain, Marque and Sailor's Thai.
We started with an entree from the specials list. It was a beef spring roll and it was sensational. The well developed flavour of a beef curry in the casing of a spring roll puts regular spring rolls to shame.
For mains we ordered the green papaya salad with crispy pork, the wagyu beef curry and roti bread instead of rice. The well developed flavour of the slow cooked wagyu beef complemented the roti bread beautifully.
The papaya salad was a fantastic dish that accompanied the richness of the curry perfectly. Hints of lemongrass, mint and chilli marinated the crispy pork. The contrasting textures of the pork and the papaya were a match made in heaven.
What a fantastic restaurant! This place takes south eastern asian cuisine to a whole other level.
