Vini

We went to another of the regional dinners at Vini last night.
This time the region was Lombardia in the north of Italy.

We started with antipasto which included bresaola-air dried salted beef and small cabbage rolls filled with duck and verzini sausage. The owner, Andrew then addressed the room like last time and talked us through the menu and the region in Italy. The next course was the most divine risotto with taleggio cheese, possibly one of the best risottos I've ever eaten. The main was osso buco which this region is famous for and was served with green beans and porcini butter. The veal shank was so flavoursome and the beans were perfectly cooked with still a bit of crunch to them.

One of my highlights of the night came at the end with the most divine combination of a slice of gorgonzola with a side of shredded apple and walnut salad. The well developed flavour of the cheese was balanced by the crisp flavour of the apple, they certainly are a match made in heaven. A piece of of nougat and tiny honey flavoured biscuits topped off an incredible gastronomic journey through the northern regions of Italy.

Vini is a wonderful restaurant with a very talented chef at the helm. No wonder it's always busy.
